Silicone oil is highly water repellent and will prevent rain and moisture from working its way into your gun and causing rusting and corrosion havoc.

Unlike many mineral oils, silicone oil is not harmful to wood and won't lead to softening and further damage. Silicone also does not evaporate, instead leaves a thin film on your rifle or pistol which lasts longer and gives you greater protection. A thin film of silicone also protects against fingerprints leaving oily residues harmful to your gun or from pitting and rusting occuring.
